PlayStation 3 HDD Upgrade
At one point or another you would feel that your PS3 is getting cramped up with all the games, downloads, music, demos, videos and all other files that you have. Once you reach that point it is time for a PlayStation 3 HDD Upgrade.
Sony ingeniously designed the PS3 to allow the unit owners to do their own hard drive upgrade. They foresaw the requirement of more storage due to the sophisticated design and use of this console. They knew that the 20 gigabyte, 60 gigabyte and 80 gigabyte standard memory space would eventually run out and console owners are sure to come by this issue sooner or later.
PlayStation 3 HDD Upgrade materials needed:
- 2.5 inch SATA notebook hard disk – both the 5400 RPM and 7200 RPM will work well. It is also wise to go extra big on memory so get a 120GB to 250GB hard disk.
- External storage – this would be used to back up the existing files you have on the old hard drive later on to be transferred to the bigger drive.
- Phillips-head screwdriver
PlayStation 3 HDD Upgrade procedure:
- Get all of the materials required to complete the upgrade and make sure the manual is with you as it would also give illustrated instructions on how to replace the hard drive
- Back up your data on the external storage device. PS3 has integrated software back up utility that can copy your files to an external storage device.
- Power off the console and unplug the system
- Remove HD side-panel
- Unscrew the blue screw
- Use the metal lever to pull the tray out
- Remove the 4 screws holding hard drive
- Replace it with your new hard drive
- Put it back together 9just reverse the procedure)
After this is done you can transfer your files from the back up external drive to your new and bigger hard drive.
